This booklet contains a fascinating collection of articles, observations and stories about the history of the town and it’s people. The booklet is illustrated throughout with several drawings and maps.

From the introduction:

I was asked to write an introduction for this modest collection of papers… which record some part of the work which members of the Local History Society have undertaken during the past ten years. They cover in particular the work we have more recently undertaken in our examination of the local archives which are held in the Town Hall and what we have felt interesting enough to recover from the deluge of time. Sections include:

  • Poor Relief in Aylsham 1700-1836
  • Hungate Street
  • The Bure Navigation 1779-1912
  • The Norwich to Cromer Tramway
  • The Railway Memorabilia
  • Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Celebrations
  • The Aylsham Regatta and Rowing Club
